Professor Jorge P. Zubelli
Professor and Chair of the Mathematics Department at Khalifa University
Dr. Jorge P. Zubelli is Professor of the Mathematics Department at Khalifa University, where he served as Chair from August 2019 till July 2025. He earned his PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1989, an MSc from IMPA in 1984, and an Electrical Engineering degree from IME RJ in 1983 with specialization in Telecommunications.
He previously served as Professor of Mathematics at IMPA from 2000 till 2019 where he also headed the Laboratory for Analysis and Mathematical Modeling in the Physical Sciences from 2009 till 2019. From 2002 to 2017, he coordinated the Professional MSc program in Mathematical Methods in Finance at IMPA. He supervised over 50 MSc students and 15 PhD dissertations as of March 2026. His research centers on inverse problems and mathematical modeling with emphasis on real world applications with emphasis on data analysis and statistical methods for Finance and Biological applications.
He has published in leading journals including Science, SIAM Journal of Numerical Analysis, SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, and Physical Review B.
He serves on the editorial boards of IJTAF, Mathematics and Computers in Simulation, and Advances in Continuous and Discrete Models.
