CAUSALab and Department of Epidemiology, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

Dr Sophia Rein is an Instructor in the CAUSALab and Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Harvard University. Her research uses real-world health data and causal inference methods to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of medical interventions.

She focuses on the development of methodology and open-source software that combines machine learning with causal inference to support robust and flexible estimation of causal effects from complex real-world data, such as electronic health records. Her applied work includes using these methods to investigate the comparative effectiveness of medications for cardiometabolic and infectious diseases. She is Principal Investigator of an ADIA Lab Health Sciences Grant to build Causal AI software for real-world evidence generation. Dr Rein earned her PhD in Biostatistics and Epidemiology from University College London (UCL).
